Kia Ora, today I'm going to be teaching you why the Hanmer Hot Pools are hot.
The hot pools are in a small town called Hanmer Springs. It is about 133 kms away from Christchurch and it is in the Southern Alps.
In the Southern Alps,170 years ago it rained and then the water fell through the cracks in the mountain. It went underground and then made a reservoir about 2k’s under the ground. Because it was near the earth’s core the water got hot. Then the pressure for the tectonic plates pushes it back up and it finds its way to the hot pools.
That is why the water in the hot pools is hot!
